Let’s face it, its easy to get caught up in the gift giving part of Christmas. While there is great joy for many in giving and receiving gifts, there is also significant strain and sometimes a loss of awareness of what the season is really all about.
These past few years have been tough. The complexity of the pandemic and how to best respond to it has been really hard on all of us. Whether in agreement or not on how to navigate these times, many of us have lost family, friends, and financial security. Nearly everyone has lost time with loved ones.
With all of this considered, one of the loudest lessons that we’ve been given the opportunity to learn, is how incredibly important our time together is. Material objects, even those that are highly expensive, can’t convey the love that time and presence offers. WE are the greatest gift we can give to others and ourselves.
The gift of loving, listening, supporting, laughing, playing and believing in another can’t be put in a box and nicely wrapped but the value that it offers far exceeds anything that can be packaged.
Though putting yourself on your own Christmas list may seem odd, giving yourself the gift of loving you, being compassionate, listening to your body, and creating peace in your mind also delivers value that can’t be measured.
The gift that you are should never be minimized or ignored. It is a gift that only you can give - by choice - and by a commitment to living in the present moment with a person you truly value.
This Christmas take time to appreciate your uniqueness and recognize the gift that you truly are.
I know that I do.
Wishing you and yours a very special Holiday Season!
